For me as a Venetian art historian, this project is about as exciting as it gets. The Venice Time Machine Project in a nutshell is a Digital Humanities project which seeks to reconstruct Venice in 4D, at different moments of its history. How this is done, is best explained here, in a TED talk by Frederic Kaplan.
Kaplan explains what the project is about and how the big data generated by Venetian historians will be used. The project is ongoing, but some of the early outcomes ae, well- have a look for yourself. Good, right?
This for me is really exciting work that opens up a lot of new research, but then, I love maps….
